Lactic acid has many uses in the brewing and wine world.  Works great in lowering mash and water pH, and is also used as an addition to Berliner Weisse and sour ales to produce a sour beer without the addition (and long fermentation times) of lactobacillus bacteria.
Can be used in wine to adjust pH and acidity.
